[Robert] John Carter
The last cohort to attend Year 8 at Primary School, before attending High School in Year 9 alongside the first of the Year 8 cohort. After working through a number of workplaces, I am still working in the occupation that I declared I would never take up - teaching. I have fond memories of many teachers and fellow students at Rocky High, not many of whom I have met since I left in 1967.

After finishing Senior in 1967, I became a high school teacher (English, geography, history - and whatever else arose). In the late-1980s, after raising a family and managing a business, I returned to the classroom for a short period before taking up post-graduate study and teaching History at CQUniversity in Rockhampton (1992 to 2012).
Since then, I have lectured on a casual basis at CQUni and worked as a professional historian. In that latter capacity, and as an RHS 'Old Girl', I am honoured that the Rockhampton State High School Centenary Committee has invited me to write a centenary history of the School to be launched at the 2019 celebrations.
As former students (and/or staff), you can help me with research for what will be a social as well as institutional history. Could you write a short piece about your memories of school life and how your RHS years may have helped shape your subsequent career and/or life in general? I would be happy to receive your reflections by email (dr.barbara.webster@gmail.com) and to consider incorporating elements of your story in the book. If you have photos, cuttings or memorabilia as well, please photograph/scan and send digitally.
Your memories and materials will be greatly appreciated and all contributions will be acknowledged in the publication. If you require more information on the history project, please contact the Centenary Publication Committee Chair, Robert Brodie (rbrod4@eq.edu.au).

I appreciated my secondary school education at RHS. Favourite teachers were Miss Humphries (Mrs Ross later) for English; Miss Barram (Mrs Cooke later) for Geography; and Mr Blair Smith (Chemistry Yr 12). I loved taking part in the school musicals and choir, especially "South Pacific" and "The King and I". It was also a privilege to represent the school in debating, Public speaking and netball as well as editing the school newsletter in Yr 11.
