Bernie Parle
Moved to Rocky in late 1969. Dad had the Grand Hotel in Archer Street. Attended RHS from 1970 (Gr9) until 1974 (Gr11). I left temporarily half way through 1973, first attempt at Yr 11. Returned in 1974 and completed year 11 and also managed to gain selection in the Qld Secondary Schools Rugby League team. Left school at the end of 1974 and moved to Brisbane where I worked at a pub (Chardon's Corner) for the next 6 years. During this time I also undertook a Diploma of Fine Art at the Queensland College of Art.
In 1980 I joined the Queensland Police Service and transferred to Rockhampton in 1981. After 18 years I resigned from the QPS and in 1999 I commenced a Bachelor of Education Degree (secondary) at Central Queensland University. I completed my degree in 2002 and took up a teaching position at The Cathedral College Rockhampton from 2003 until I retired at the end of 2020. Since that time I have done regular relief teaching and ticked off a few bucket list adventures. Last year (2023) I kayaked 2400klm down the Murray River from Kosciuszko National Park to the Murray Mouth at Goolwah, South Australia. I am currently planning a sailing trip to Fraser Island to coincide with next years whale migration season. After that I hope to paddle (kayak) the Barwon and Darling Rivers from the Qld NSW border to the Victorian NSW border at Wentworth.
